Retailers are already preparing for Christmas, and Retail NZ is advising everyone looking for seasonal work to get their CV finalized and distributed to retailers now.  

“Many retailers will need additional staff over Christmas so now is the time for both businesses and potential employees to get ready,” says Carolyn Young, Chief Executive of Retail NZ. 

“Having the right people on board early gives retailers time to train their seasonal teams properly and puts stores in a much stronger position when Christmas shopping ramps up. It’s important stores identify the number of staff they will need, the hours they can offer and how they will bring new team members up to speed, so they are best-placed to make the most of the jobseeker interest.” 

Ms Young says retailers will also be getting in seasonal stock and preparing their sales promotions already. 

“It’s just over 10 weeks to Christmas, but we are already seeing trees being decorated and Christmas displays popping up. It won’t be long before the deals and discounts begin – everything from Halloween, to Singles Day, to Black Friday,” Ms Young says.  

As the peak body representing New Zealand retailers, Retail NZ has a whole host of resources available to help stores prepare for the busiest trading period of the year, including advice articles, employment contract templates and webinars.  

Retail NZ Members also get access to the just-launched Christmas Hub, which brings everything together in one easy-to-navigate space and includes some exclusive content, to make things ultra easy. 

“The December quarter is the time where most retailers do their biggest trade, with many relying on a successful festive season to be able to make it through the slower months of the year,” Ms Young says.  

“The Christmas Hub is designed to ensure retailers are set up for success, and we are hopeful our resources can help retailers make this Christmas their strongest yet!”
